Daily Data Point: Trump’s Job Approval Hits an All-Time Low by Sean Trende
The dog days of “summer" are finally descending upon D.C., scorching everything in sight, including Trump’s job approval rating. (How’s that for a forced intro sentence?) Earlier this week, we explored the causes of the dips in the president’s numbers. Today, we observe that Trump’s job approval has hit an all-time low of 39.7 percent. This includes a yawning 15 point net disapproval rating. Moreover, the polls are broadly in agreement about this: Six of the seven surveys in the average show the rating within a point of 39 percent, and all seven have his disapproval within a point of 55 percent. We’ve noted the correlation between a president’s job approval and his party’s performance in Senate races; we’ll explore a similar correlation for House races in the coming weeks. For now, suffice it to say that Republicans should keep a close eye on this; if they don’t improve, it could be an especially chilly November in 2018 for them. |
