Thursday, April 20, 2017 With the fate of a key Affordable Care Act subsidy still up in the air, health insurers have already submitted filings in some states indicating whether they will participate in the exchanges next year. In Kentucky and Virginia, which have some of the earliest deadlines among state regulators, insurers’ preliminary filings offer the first clues about what the individual marketplaces will look like next year.


More than just health insurance: Medicare Advantage startup aims to boost care coordination

Wednesday, April 19, 2017 After seeing firsthand how poor care coordination can endanger patients’ health—and challenge their caregivers—one man decided to do something about it. That man is John Kao, now the CEO of a startup called Alignment Healthcare, which provides health insurance plans and services for Medicare Advantage customers.


Healthcare executives predict no winners under Trump

Wednesday, April 19, 2017 A new survey finds healthcare executives have a pessimistic view of the healthcare landscape and rising uncertainty about the Trump administration. There was little consensus over when the Trump administration might put forward a comprehensive plan, but in general, the group expects patients will see less insurance coverage, fewer benefits and higher premiums.

The uninsured rate among nonelderly veterans declined by nearly 40% during the first two years of the Affordable Care Act’s coverage provisions. Urban Institute report Humana is partnering with four leading orthopedic specialty groups in Tennessee to bring a value-based bundled payment care model for its Medicare Advantage members undergoing total hip or knee joint replacement procedures. The insurer is also expanding the model in Ohio. Announcement Michael Guyette, the CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, said he’s “cautiously optimistic" about the state’s struggling individual insurance market. Star Tribune article
